What happens with high water or a high water level?
Your safety always comes first with us. And the good news: you don’t have to worry about the weather and the water level yourself, we take care of that for you. We keep a close eye on the weather and the Rur’s water level, especially in the days before your tour and on the day itself. We decide whether a tour goes ahead, based on the actual situation on site, not on a forecast from far away.
Rain or thunderstorms are forecast for the next few days. Will you cancel?
We hear this question a lot, and the answer is almost always: No. A weather forecast several days ahead is statistically not reliable enough to base a cancellation on. Forecast rain often turns into a dry day, and canoeing is an outdoor sport where getting wet is part of the deal anyway. We look at the real situation shortly before and on your tour day. As long as you don’t hear from us, your tour goes ahead as planned. So please don’t cancel in a hurry yourself just because your weather app shows rain for your tour day.
When will we contact you?
The decision and the judgment call are ours. We’ll get in touch with you ourselves in good time as soon as a truly critical situation is developing, for example high water, an acute storm or thunderstorm warning, or an official closure of the Rur. After heavy rain the water level can rise quickly, and hidden obstacles then drift in the water. We don’t take that risk. We keep an eye on the water, so you don’t have to follow the gauge readings yourself.
And if you do get in touch, do I get my money back?
Yes, then you won’t be left out in the rain. If we can’t run a tour safely, you can choose: a new date, a voucher or your money back. Together we’ll find a solution that works for you.
By the way: light drizzle is no reason to worry, we paddle as normal then. More on this in the article What happens if the weather is bad?
