Can I bring my own boat (canoe, kayak, SUP)?
No. On our guided tours you always paddle in our boats: on the Rur in our kayaks, on the Heimbach Reservoir in our canoes. That also applies to your own canoes, kayaks and SUPs.
On the Rur our guides know every one of our kayaks inside out. If someone capsizes, every move has to be right, and that only works with gear they handle every day. On top of that, the guides recognize their group by the boats, which helps them keep track of everyone on the river.
On the Heimbach Reservoir we sometimes play games on the water along the way. That doesn’t work with other boats.
Transport: We don’t offer boat transport or a luggage service for your own boats.
Your own boat, on your own: For the Rur, you register your trip in advance yourself with the NRW canoe association, Kanu-Verband NRW, and pay a fee per boat there. From March 1 to July 14 the Rur is closed to protect nature, and only a limited number of boats may paddle each day. Stand-up paddleboards are not allowed on the Rur at all. You’ll find all the rules in our post Rur paddling rules. The information from the Kanu-Verband NRW (in German) is always binding.
Our tip: Don’t know the Rur yet? Then paddle it with us first. There are obstacles along the route that you can’t see from the bank, and under the paddling rules, inexperienced paddlers may only paddle in a group led by an expert. The guided Rur tour includes everything: kayak, paddle, life jacket, guide and registration with the association.
