The Rur is more than a river.
From the Heimbach Reservoir you glide through the narrow Rur valley, past the rock faces near Nideggen. No engine noise, no road. Just water, forest and birdsong. Look closely and you'll spot kingfishers, maybe even a black stork.

Park in Zerkall
Free parking in Zerkall (Auel 1, 52393 Hürtgenwald). From the lot it's a 3-minute walk to the station.

Train to Heimbach
Rurtalbahn at xx:50 up to Heimbach, a 15-minute ride. From the station a 10-minute walk to the boathouse, briefing, and onto the water.

14 km Paddeln
Heimbach → Zerkall, 3 to 4 hours. A break on one of the sandbanks is part of it.

Right at your car
You get off the water right in Zerkall, your car is already waiting. Hot showers at the canoeists' house at Infopoint Zerkall, then a relaxed drive home.
Who Is This Tour For?
The Rur has a light current and a few eddies, but no whitewater. Suitable for anyone who can stay afloat reasonably well.
Beginners without experience
No license, no prior knowledge needed. Our guides explain everything before the start: paddling technique, safety, the route. Requirement: being able to swim confidently.
Families with children from 9
Children aged 9 to 13 paddle together with mom or dad in a double kayak. From 14 they can paddle on their own. Four hours of full attention for each other. Prefer still water? View the reservoir tour.
