Canoeing on the Rursee: Pure Nature in the Eifel National Park

The Heimbach Reservoir lies in the middle of the Eifel National Park. We paddle past the historic Art Nouveau power station of Heimbach, tell you about the beavers living on the banks and show you their lodge. Calm water, no current stress, perfect for watching, marveling and enjoying.

Calm water

Unlike the Rur tour, the reservoir has hardly any current. Ideal for beginners, children and leisurely tours at your own pace.

Eifel National Park

You paddle in the middle of the Eifel National Park. Unspoiled nature, where white-tailed eagles, wildcats and beavers are no rare sight.

Perfect for families

We use stable canoes, ideal for families, because you all sit together in one boat. Children from age 7 paddle along in the boat of an adult who can swim.

Long season

From March to October you can explore the reservoir. Especially beautiful in spring: budding trees, birdsong and clear water.

Out on the water it was fun and entertaining, and the short talk about the beavers especially fascinated me. All in all a truly wonderful experience. Many thanks, gladly again!

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about the Heimbach Reservoir

Do I need canoeing experience?

No. The reservoir is the waters we recommend for absolute beginners. The calm water without current makes paddling easy to learn. Our briefing at the jetty is all you need to paddle safely right away.

Can I bring children?

Yes. The minimum age at the reservoir is 7, accompanied by an adult in the same boat who can swim. We use canoes (multi-seaters), so parents and children paddle together. Life jackets in children's sizes are provided. More on 'being able to swim safely' →

What is the difference to the Rur tour?

The reservoir tour takes place on still water: ideal for beginners, relaxed paddling and wildlife watching. The Rur tour runs downstream on the river (14 km, approx. 4.5 hrs) with a light current, a bit more demanding and adventurous. View the Rur tour →

How long does a reservoir tour take?

The guided tour takes about 2 to 2.5 hours on a roughly 6 km route. Ideal for exploring without it getting too long.

Can I cancel if the weather app looks bad?

Cancellation is scaled: up to 60 days before the tour you get 100% of your money back. Between 60 and 14 days we convert the amount into a voucher (valid 36 months, transferable). With Stornoflex (€4.90 per person at booking) you can cancel for any reason up to 48 h before the tour and get the full tour price back. In dangerous weather we cancel the tour ourselves, light rain is no reason to cancel. Weather details →

Is there parking?
