Can children join the Rur tour?

Yes, but there are a few conditions: children aged 9 and up can paddle with us on the Rur, and from 9 to 13 they must be accompanied by an adult. A few other important points also need to be met.

Why only from age 9?

The Rur isn’t calm, still water. There’s current, there are bends and smaller obstacles like rocks, branches, and both deep and shallow spots.
So that the tour is fun and isn’t overwhelming, children need a certain basic level of fitness, and above all, they need to swim confidently.

Even though adults can stand up in the river in many places, the current is easy to underestimate, especially for children. So the rule here is:
👉 Better to wait a year than to start a year too early.

Parents’ responsibility

We trust parents to give an honest assessment:

  • Can my child swim confidently?
  • Does my child have the stamina for a tour lasting several hours?

If the answer to both is “yes”, nothing stands in the way of your adventure.

Tip: If you’re unsure, you can simply do the tour a year later, with even more fun and safety! We’ll stay right here in the Eifel and wait for you until then.
