Can I paddle the Rur without a guide?
Don’t know the Rur well yet, and haven’t paddled it several times? We strongly recommend doing the tour with our guides once.
The Rur isn’t a typical river like the Lahn, Lippe or Sieg, which often feel like a long, drawn-out lake. There are lots of obstacles here, often invisible ones below the surface, that can quickly make you capsize. Without local knowledge, the river is not suitable for paddlers.
Everyone in the group should know the river well and ideally have paddled it before (see also the guidance from the NRW canoe association, Kanu-Verband NRW).
Important information for rentals
- Recovery, loss of or damage to equipment is charged separately. Examples:
- Kayak: €900
- Paddle: €100
- Life jacket: €100
- Recovery effort: €60 per hour per person
- More to organize yourself: paddling on the Rur requires an official fee. If you rent the boats from us (without a guided tour), please book these Rur permits (Rur-Abfahrtsmarken) yourself in advance, online directly with the Kanu-Verband NRW. On our guided tours, these fees are included in the price.
You’ll find all other information about the guided tour on our website: Booking calendar
If you’d still like to rent the boats without a guide, get in touch with us and send proof that everyone in your group has paddled the river before.
