Can you drink alcohol while canoeing?
Short answer: No.
Slightly longer answer: Before and during the tour, drinking alcohol is strictly forbidden (and yes, that includes a shandy), and there are good reasons for that.
Why so strict?
The Rur is no sleepy swimming lake. It has current, bends, the occasional bit of action, and along the way there are obstacles like branches, rocks or fallen trees, some of them just below the surface.
Anyone who isn’t fully focused here puts themselves and others at risk. That’s why our rule is:
👉 Only get in the boat with a clear head.
Paddling, not partying
A canoe tour is an active sport out in nature, not a booze cruise. And anyone who paddles knows: it’s harder work than it looks.
And if someone has been drinking anyway?
We reserve the right to end the tour immediately if we suspect alcohol use, for the safety of everyone involved.
Tip: The beer garden is just as good after the tour, and then with a clear conscience!
