Do all participants need to be able to swim, or is a life jacket enough?
Short and direct: YES, everyone on our tours must be able to swim!
Of course we provide the life jacket. It’s mandatory and adds extra safety, but it’s no substitute for basic swimming skills.
Why is that?
When you go canoeing or kayaking, you’re out on natural, open water. If someone does capsize (don’t worry, it’s rare, but better safe than sorry!), you need to be able to stay afloat safely and swim to the bank, even with a life jacket on. The life jacket helps you with that, but without some experience in the water of your own, it gets dangerous.
So the rule is:
- Minimum requirement: Being able to swim confidently (staying afloat for at least 20 minutes without any aids)
- Life jackets are mandatory and provided by us
- Of course, this also applies to children & teenagers
