Can you go canoeing in the rain?

Yes. When you’re canoeing, light rain is no reason to cancel, so the tour goes ahead. A bit of water is part of this sport, and lots of guests tell us afterwards that their tour in the rain was the most atmospheric one of all: a quiet river, steaming woods, hardly anyone else on the water.

What to wear: Functional sportswear or quick-drying clothes instead of cotton, plus a rain jacket and dry clothes to change into afterwards. Everything else that belongs in the boat is on our canoe tour packing list.

Where we draw the line: If there’s a thunderstorm, a gale or flooding, we cancel the tour, at the latest 4 hours before the start. You then choose between a full refund, a voucher or rebooking. All the details are in the FAQ What happens in bad weather?

Tip for groups who’d rather stay dry: The Heimbach Reservoir is calm water with no current, which makes it the most relaxed choice when the sky can’t make up its mind. And after the tour, a warm place to stop for food and drinks is waiting in Heimbach.
